Description
This is a space filling model showing the chemical structure of nitrogen. The size of each atom is determined by its Van der Waals radius and the relative positions faithfully reproduce the structure of the molecule. Colors follow traditional conventions used in popular molecular visualization software (e.g. Jmol).
Nitrogen is the most abundant atmospheric gas, comprising 78.1% of the dry atmosphere. The strong bond makes it chemically stable and non-reactive in most circumstances. Nitrogen's simple structure is unable to absorb either visible or infrared light. As a result, nitrogen is not a greenhouse gas.
