Description
The structural formula
for molecular oxygen
This is a space filling model showing the chemical structure of oxygen. The size of each atom is determined by its Van der Waals radius and the relative positions faithfully reproduce the structure of the molecule. Colors follow traditional conventions used in popular molecular visualization software (e.g. Jmol).
Oxygen is the second most abundant atmospheric gas, comprising 20.9% of the dry atmosphere. Oxygen's simple structure is unable to absorb either visible or infrared light. As a result, oxygen is not a greenhouse gas.
